About Luminocity

The degree of luminocity of a watch depends on the paint or tritium vials used to generate the luminosity. If you need a watch that is luminous all night without any kind of recharging then buy a Gaseous Tritium Light Source watch. All non-GTLS light source watches we supply are painted and the level of luminocity depends on the amount of original charge with UV light (sunlight not a lamp). While Luminova is initially brighter it very quickly loses its brightness. They are usually easily visible for an hour or so and if you are working in the dark your eyes will become acustom to the light level so the actual time you can view the watch could be several hours. However if you put it by your bedside and then wake up at 4 o'clock in the morning expecting to see the time I am afraid you will be disappointed as your eyes will not have time to get acustomed to the low luminoscity of paint.

This chart clearly illustrates that within 10 minutes the brightness of SuperLuminova has fallen to 10% of its original brigtness, and after 70 minutes it is down to 1% of its original brightness. This is still adequate for reading the time if you are continuously operating in a night time environment. You will notice that after about 2.5hrs the brigtness would be down to 0.2% of the original charged brigtness and therefore unless you had been operating in the same light level as your watch, you may not be able to see the time.

So, if you need 100% night time visibility or are only operating for part of the time in a dark environment we can only recommend a GTLS watch.
